Mozart Coronation Concerto

The legendary pianist Alicia de Larrocha is a Mozart specialist. And I have admired the conductor Colin Davis for so many of his outstanding interpretations, as well. Here’s this team performing Mozart’s concerto # 26 (Coronation), and also the concerto #22.

Both of these experts, as supported by the fine musicians of the English Chamber Orchestra bring us Mozart as it ought to be played, in my view: Light, sprightly, humorous, joyful, yet also mindful (in the middle slow movements) of the sadness that is frequently a reality in this life. The pianist achieved some wonderful effects on this CD, and the orchestra is always in proper balance, assuring that it never overshadows the piano solo role.
