Jean-Bernard Pommier

Mozart Piano Sonata #16 in B-Flat; K570

I have heard more music from this pianist recently, and I pay more attention because there are so many things about his performances that I like: His tempi appear to me to be slightly slower than the norm. As a result, I hear things in the music that are new and novel for me.

In this sonata, one more of the Mozart masterpieces, the last movement is a real attention getter: It’s syncopated, and it’s exciting. Usually taken quite fast by many pianists; yet Pommier won’t be rushed, and I’m glad
Check out this performance on the CD from Virgin Records, VC7-91095-2. As an alternative: Philips has an older recording of several Mozart sonatas as performed by Mitsuko Uchida. If you’d like to compare how she does this same work, listen to her performance on: Philips D 115377
