Itzhak Perlman Performs in San Francisco!!
October 14th, 2009: This morning at 10 AM, I attended an open rehearsal of the San Francisco Symphony. The conductor and performer was none other than Itzhak Perlman, preparing the orchestra for 4 concerts.
My suggestion: Attend if you’re able. It’s well worth the time. It’s not every day that we can hear a world-class musician of Perlman’s caliber.
While the 10 AM audience got to see just what goes on at a rehearsal, the concerts this week are the result of all the preparation. Here are the dates:
Wed. October 14; 8 PM
Thu., October 15; 8 PM
Sat. Oct. 17, 8 PM
Sunday, October 18; 4 PM
All performances are at Louise Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco.
Program:
Bach: Violin concerto #2.
Elgar: Introduction and Allegro for String Orchestra
Tchaikovsky: Symphony # 6.
Perlman has undoubtedly played the Bach as a soloist since his youth. Now he doubles as soloist and conductor of the orchestra. One can see the lifetime of experience that he brings to these pieces by the way he polishes their presentation for these 4 concerts.
While the first 2 selections are for string orchestra only, in the final selection we get the full power, force, experience, and polish of our own SF Symphony as they perform Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece.
