Master Violist!

Master violist!

Tabea Zimmermann is one of the reigning violists of our day. She inspires me to tell you again that in my next life I will learn to play the Viola. For now, however, please enjoy this marvelous musician and performer:

In Ms. Zimmermann, I see and hear a fine musician who clearly had outstanding training. A performer who feels her music deeply. A violist whose phrases are expressive, detailed, and completely secure and confident. And a performer who seemingly also enjoys her craft.

Here is Ms. Zimmermann in Bartók’s Viola Concerto with Maestro Bychkov conducting the Berliner Philharmoniker

And here she is again, in Harold in Italy by Hector Berlioz; she comes in at 03:24
What a tone! What a warm, full-bodied expressiveness; And listen to the pianissimo; Yep… I’m a total admirer of this musician…
