Cellists compared

Cellists compared!

Let’s compare how a few excellent Cellists perform the same music by Bach:

Mstislav Rostropovich – Bach: Cello Suite No.3 in C major, BWV 1009

Yo-Yo Ma plays the Prelude from Bach´s Cello Suite No. 3

Wen-Sinn Yang performs J.S. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3 in C major BWV 1009

Here is Alisa Weilerstein’s interpretation of the Cello suite in C-major

And now here’s Mischa Maisky performing Bach’s Cello Suite No.3 Prelude

Here’s another version of Weilestein’s Bach:

What do you think? Which of these performances is most satisfying to you?

I personally find Ms. Weilestein’s tempo in this work is too fast. My personal taste is to be with this music longer, and I want to savor it more; cannot do that when the notes fly by so rapidly.

So… my personal favorite is the one by Mischa Maisky. You might well feel quite differently about this music…

Tell me in the space below what your favorite is… (Thanks!)
