Stravinsky’s Capriccio

Stravinsky’s Capriccio

This is a CD of a historic performance. The CD was introduced in February, 2012:

  • Igor Stravinsky performs Stravinsky.

Featuring the following music:

• Petrushka Suite
• The Firebird
• Capriccio for Piano & Orchestra

Igor Stravinsky was a major force in the development of music and of Ballet. Many of his compositions caused great turbulence in the world of music, because they created great controversy.

Some listeners at the time simply could not accept the change in what they were used to hearing in the past. They were hearing new astounding rhythms, and occasionally very primitive-sounding music that was vastly different than ordinary concert hall music of the times.

Yet now, many years later, Igor Stravinsky’s music has become a staple of the concert hall repertoire.

Let me show you an example:

Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971): Capriccio per pianoforte e orchestra (1929) – Performed by Carlos Roque Alsina, pianoforte, with the Orchestre Philharmonique de France
