Idomeneo

Mozart: Idomeneo, K366

  • Recorded live at the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich

This wonderful production, Mozart’s opera Idomeneo returns to the place where it was first performed in 1781, the lovingly restored Cuvilliés Theatre

In Dieter Dorn’s production, the characters are real people, their emotions and conflicts accessible and visible to every member of the audience.

The performers are:

John Mark Ainsley (Idomeneo), Pavol Breslik (Idamante), Juliane Banse (Ilia), Annette Dasch (Elettra), Rainer Trost (Arbace), Guy de Mey (Gran Sacerdote di Nettuno) & Steven Humes (La voce)

The above singer are supported by the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and Choir and the Extrachor der Bayerischen Staatsoper, conducted by Kent Nagano

  • Sung in the original language: Italian
  • Subtitles: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish

The Penguin Guide, 2010, wrote:

“Marvellously sung. John Mark Ainsley is an authoritative Idomeneo, but it is Julianne Banse one especially remembers for her lovely singing as Ilia… Annette Dasch is a properly fiery Elettra… Nagano conducts the Bavarian Chorus and Orchestra with plenty of spirit (the storm chorus is especially riveting)”
