Michelangeli’s magic

Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli plays Ravel and Debussy

This recording is a tribute to the late Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, a very fine musician; a perfectionist with a highly selective concert repertoire, in which Scarlatti’s works might be joined by those of Debussy and Ravel.

The number of Michelangeli’s recordings is limited now, with mostly CD’s of works by Debussy and Ravel and a few by Beethoven.

On this recording, we hear:

  • Children’s Corner

  • Gaspard de la Nuit
  • Piano Concerto in G major
  • Valses nobles et sentimentales

Performed by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (piano)

Here is Maurice Ravel’s Concerto for piano and orchestra in G Major, with Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, piano, and the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sergiu Celibidache:

And next, here is Michelangeli performing Debussy’s “La fille aux cheveux de lin”
