Music of Adams

American Clarinet

This morning, I listened to music by American composer John Adams. This was music for clarinet and ensemble, and the title was “Gnarly Buttons”.

I liked this music a lot! I found it creative, humorous, and great fun to hear. The ensemble featured trombone, violin, viola, Banjo, Bassoon, English horn, and other instruments that accompanied the solo clarinet. The version I heard this morning featured Michael Collins, Clarinet.

On this CD we also get music by three other composers, as listed below:

Adams, J:

  • Gnarly Buttons for clarinet & ensemble

Carter, E:

  • Clarinet Concerto

Reich:

  • New York Counterpoint
  • Gra – for solo clarinet

Sandroff:

  • Tephillah, for clarinet and electronics

Performed by Alain Damiens & Franck Rossi (clarinets),  with the InterContemporain Ensemble, conducted by David Robertson
