Pierre Boulez conducts music by Mahler and Alban Berg

These performances were recorded live at the opening concert of the prestigious Salzburg Festival in 2011. The music was a tribute to Gustav Mahler, and it will be released to coincide with the 88th birthday of Pierre Boulez later this month.

The selections are:

Alban Berg:

  • Lulu-Suite (Five Symphonic Pieces) for soprano and orchestra

Gustav Mahler:

  • Das klagende Lied

Singers: Dorothea Röschmann (soprano), Anna Larsson (contralto), Johan Botha (tenor), with the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor

Performed by the Wiener Philharmoniker, conducted by Pierre Boulez

Pierre Boulez is an icon of today’s classical scene, and he is closely associated with the works of Mahler and other composers of the Viennese School.

Featuring the acclaimed Vienna Philharmonic and the chorus of the Vienna State Opera. They, too, are historically connected to Mahler, Alban Berg and Boulez.

Gustav Mahler’s 2-act “Das Klagende Lied” is a mythical tale based on stories by the Grimm brothers and Ludwig Bechstein.
