Shostakovich:

  • Cello Concerto No. 1 and Cello Sonata

Recorded on this CD are two masterpieces for cello by Shostakovich, written 25 years apart. The Sonata Op.40 of 1934 plunged its composer into disgrace with Stalin. The second work was composed in 1959 by seemingly a bitter self-questioning artist.

  • Cello Sonata in D minor, Op. 40; performed with Pascal Amoyel (piano)
