Tanglewood 75th Anniversary Celebration

Tanglewood is one of the world’s most beloved music festivals, and it serves as the summer home for the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO). I was there many years ago, and I can tell you that this festival attracts some of the great musical talent, and some of the finest teachers and musicians on the planet.

This 75th Anniversary Celebration concert included performances by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, vocalist James Taylor, pianists Emanuel Ax and Peter Serkin, as well as the Tanglewood Festival Chorus with John Oliver.

The concert also features the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, under the direction of conductors Keith Lockhart, Andris Nelsons, John Williams and David Zinman.

This DVD allows the listener to enjoy many of the selections that were presented. Yo Yo Ma’s performance, and Anne-Sophie Mutter’s performance of the Carmen Fantasy are particularly noteworthy.
