Leonidas Kavakos.

Brahms:

  • Violin Concerto, and more—

On this CD, violinist Leonidas Kavakos presents an extensive repertoire of much-loved masterpieces.

This disc features the Brahms Violin Concerto, for which Mr. Kavakos is joined by one of the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, conducted by Riccardo Chailly.

The music we hear is as follows:

Bartók:

  • Rhapsody for Violin & Orchestra No. 1, BB 94b, Sz. 87

Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Riccardo Chailly

  • Rhapsody for Violin & Orchestra No. 2, BB 96b, Sz. 90

Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Riccardo Chailly

Brahms:

  • Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77

Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Riccardo Chailly

Hungarian Dance No. 1 in G minor, arr. Joachim, with Peter Nagy (piano)

Hungarian Dance No.2 in D minor, arr. Joachim, with Peter Nagy (piano)

Hungarian Dance No. 6 in D flat major, arr. Joachim, with Peter Nagy (piano)

Hungarian Dance No. 11, arr. Joachim, with Peter Nagy (piano)

Performed by Leonidas Kavakos (violin)

Mr. Kavakos is also accompanied by pianist Péter Nagy for Brahms’ timeless Hungarian Dances (Numbers 1, 2 ,6 and 11), and Bartók’s energetic Rhapsodies and Romanian Folk Dances – two great composers hugely influenced by Hungarian folk music.

I love the way this warm, charismatic music is presented in spirited performances by musicians who have this repertoire in their blood.
