Valentina Lisitsa performs:
I have heard Valentina Lisitsa perform as a soloist, and also as a co-performer with violinist Hilary Hahn. Ms. Lisitsa is a very fine, sensitive pianist with a lot of ability.
Valentina has come to be known as a “YouTube star” of classical music. She has converted her online success into a global concert career in the principal venues of Europe, the USA, South America and Asia. The number of views of her YouTube channel has now topped an astonishing 60 million, and her legion of loyal and adoring fans continues to grow.
For its official season opener, the “Y” is turning to Ms. Lisitsa, and her program here has been selected by her fans via the Y’s Web site. In addition to Shostakovich’s Sonata No. 2 in B Minor, there will also be a bunch of Rachmaninoff preludes and a collection of Chopin nocturnes.
The 92nd street Y is at Lexington Ave. at 92nd St. 212-415-5500. The concert is on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 PM.
