Andsnes’ Beethoven 5th.

Leif Ove Andsnes – The Beethoven Journey.

With the release of this new CD, the well-known Norwegian pianist completes his journey dedicated to the performances of Beethoven’s five piano concertos.

The Beethoven Journey is a four-year collaborative project between Leif Ove Andsnes and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Together they have recorded all of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos, as well as the Choral Fantasy, with Andsnes not only playing but also conducting the orchestra.

On this final CD, we hear the following:

Beethoven:

  • Fantasia for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra in C minor, Op. 80

Performed by Leif Ove Andsnes (piano & direction), with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

This series of recordings began with the live recording of the Piano Concertos 1 and 3 at the Prague Spring Festival. The second CD, Piano Concertos 2 and 4, was recorded in London in 2013, and the final album was recorded again live at the Prague Spring Festival in 2014.

Here is Mr. Andsnes in a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) Piano Concerto no. 1 in C major, op. 15, III. Rondo:

And next, here is Mr. Andsnes in Beethoven’s piano concerto #3:

Finally, I was unable to locate the recording of the “Emperor” concerto as performed by Leif Ove Andsnes, so I bring you, instead, the Beethoven 5th Piano E-flat major, Op. 73 as performed by Daniel Barenboim, piano.
