Great NYC concert.

Historic Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra:

  • At Avery Fisher Hall.

I have admired conductor Riccardo Chailly, as an interpreter of the music of Mahler and of the other Romantic repertoire. He is the leader of the historic German Gewandhaus Orchestra, which was founded back in the 1700’s.

You might find it hard to believe, but one of this orchestra’s previous music directors was none other than composer Felix Mendelssohn.

This group of fine players will give two concerts in New York City on Sunday and Monday, next week.

The first concert features Bach’s Fourth Orchestral Suite and Anton Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony.

The second concert includes the Beethoven Violin Concerto (with Nikolaj Znaider) and the Symphony No. 5 “Reformation” by Felix Mendelssohn.

Venue:

  • Avery Fisher Hall. 212-721-6500.

Dates:

  • November 9th at 5 PM, and November 10th at 8 PM.
