Music for Viola

Romantic Metamorphoses:

  • Music for Viola…

On this new release, Ms. Zemtsov invites listeners to re-explore Romanticism from different perspectives. Be it the lyrical nineteenth-century classical romanticism of Vieuxtemps’s Viola Sonata, the fantastical adventure of Bloch’s Suite’1919′ or the drama of Waxman’s Carmen Fantasy.

The most personal selection is Zemtsov’s inclusion of “Melodie im Alten Stil”, composed by her grandfather Evgeni Zemtsov. Written for her grandmother, who was also a violist, it was intended as a declaration of love.

We get to hear the following:

Bloch, E:

  • Suite for viola & piano

Vieuxtemps:

  • Viola Sonata in B flat, Op. 36

Waxman, F:

Zemtsov:

  • “Melodie im Alten Stil” for viola and piano

Performed by Dana Zemtsov, viola, and Cathelijne Noorland, piano.
