Shostakovich:
- Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2
Shostakovich completed his First Concerto in 1948, and it was dedicated to the great Russian violinist David Oistrakh.
The Second Concerto was completed and premiered in 1967 and also dedicated to violinist David Oistrakh. This late example of Shostakovich’s music could hardly present a sharper contrast to the First Concerto.
On this CD, we get to listen to both of these works: Shostakovich:
- Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 99
- Violin Concerto No. 2 in C sharp minor, Op. 129
Performed by Lydia Mordkovitch (violin), with the Scottish National Orchestra, Neeme Järvi conducting.
Lydia Mordkovitch was a student of Mr. Oistrakh, and thus she surely has a direct timeline to the appropriate interpretation.
