Schubert: Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4
After their excellent recording of the complete Beethoven symphonies, as well as a highly-regarded cycle of Richard Strauss’ tone poems, David Zinman and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich now devote themselves to the symphonies of Franz Schubert.
These are great musical masterpieces which set an important direction for the music that followed after Schubert’s death.
- Symphony No. 3 in D major, D200
- Symphony No. 4 in C minor, D417 ‘Tragic’
Performed by the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, conducted by David Zinman
For many years Mr. Zinman was the head of the Conducting Institute at the Aspen, Colorado School of Music. Many of his students went on to lead major orchestras after spending time in learning the important symphonic repertoire with him.
