ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE:

John Adams conducts his latest collaboration with Leila Josefowicz, one of the world’s great champions of new music for the violin.

“I find Leila a perfect embodiment of that kind of empowered strength and energy that a modern Scheherazade would possess,” the composer says.

It’s always a special occasion when John Adams conducts one of his latest compositions, especially a collaboration with the world’s leading proponent of new music for the violin, Leila Josefowicz. This huge “Symphony for Violin and Orchestra,” which takes off from Rimsky-Korsakov’s popular classic of musical story telling, received rave reviews in its New York premiere.
