Thomas Stacy!

Master Oboe player!

This is a wonderful collection of 4 concerti for Oboe d’Amore and accompanying orchestra. The music is by Johann Sebastian Bach and by Telemann.

Thomas Stacy was previously the English horn soloist of the New York Philharmonic. In this delightful recording of four concerti for oboe d’amore, Stacy shows us his singing tone on this less familiar member of the oboe family.

Stacy performs two concerti by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767); In addition, Stacy performs two concerti reconstructed from harpsichord concerti, BWV 1053 and BWV 1055, by J.S. Bach (1685-1750). Stacy performs all four concerti with amazing skill, and great sensitivity. The slow movements are my favorites, because we get more time to enjoy the interpretations, phrasing, and the decorations and trills by the solo instrument.

The Toronto Chamber Orchestra, under Kevin Mallon, provides outstanding support to allow the mastery of Mr. Stacy to come through in its full details.

Here is another master composer of Oboe music, Thommaso Albinoni:
