Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring; Petrushka; The Firebird; Apollo

As a consequence of hosting a 20th century classical music program on NPR radio, I have come to appreciate the music of Igor Stravinsky more than I ever have in the past. I particularly love the rhythms, the diverse orchestral colors and instrumentation, and the inventiveness and excitement of this music.

There are two CD’s in this wonderful collection of Stravinsky’s masterpieces.
• Orchestra: City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
• Conductor: Simon Rattle

Stravinsky is certainly one of the most outstanding 20th century composers. On this CD his Rite of Spring is beautifully played; and Petrushka, as well as Firebird and Apollo are outstanding, as well.
