Bach’s Oboe

I have always loved the sound of the Oboe because of its expressive, wailing, sad voice. And composers over many hundreds of years have given us some great music in which the Oboe played a major role. Certainly this is true of concerti for the oboe as a solo instrument. However, also in symphonies we have spots where the oboe shines. An example is the beginning of the slow movement of the Symphony #2 of Robert Schumann. We’ll talk more about that some other time. Now on to Bach’s Oboe concerti. If you’re able, pay particular attention to the last three tracks, which feature the concerto for Violin and Oboe, a terrific work.
