Pletnev’s Tchaikovsky #6

Tchaikovsky Symphony #6 / Capriccio Italien

  • Performed by the Russian National Orchestra, conducted by Mikhail Pletnev

I have the highest respect for Mikhail Pletnev, both as a pianist and as a conductor.

This is the third release in the new complete Tchaikovsky Symphony cycle.

The first release (Symphony No.4) got rave reviews:

“…passionate and powerful performances…compelling direct accounts that are full-blooded, subtle and finely detailed.”
………………………..International Record Review.

The CD was issued August 30, 2011

Tracks on this recording are:

Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, Op. 74, “Pathetique”
• Adagio – Allegro non troppo
• Allegro con gracia
• Allegro molto vivace
• Finale: Adagio lamentoso

Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien, Op. 45
• Capriccio Italien, Op. 45

Here is a recording from 21 years ago of Tchaikovsky’s Manfred, as performed by Mikhail Pletnev and Russian National Orchestra at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory on 16 November, 1990
