Leontyne Price!

Leontyne Price sings spirituals

  • Spirituals, Hymns, and Sacred Songs

The voice, interpretations, and character of performances by soprano Leontyne Price were singular. Many people continue to admire her abilities to this day. She appeared in Operas, of course, but she also sang Lieder by many composers, as well as sacred works, and as a soloist in Verdi’s Requiem and more.

On this CD, we get a collection of spirituals, as follows:

A city called Heaven
Deep river
Ev’ry time I feel the spirit
He’s got the whole world in his hands
His name so sweet
Honor! honor!
I couldn’t hear nobody pray
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
Let us break bread together on our knees
Let us cheer the weary traveller
My soul’s been anchored in de Lord
My way is cloudy
Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen
On ma journey
Ride on, King Jesus
Round about de mountain
Sinner, please don’t let this harvest pass
Sit down, servant
Sweet little jesus boy
Swing low, sweet chariot
There is a balm in gilead
Were you there

Performed by Leontyne Price (soprano)

Here is Leontyne Price singing “This little light of mine”

And now, something different:
