La Boheme

Puccini: La Bohème

  • Salzburg Festival, 2012

The amazing singer, Anna Netrebko, stars in this 2012 audio release of La Bohème.

This DVD is a new production of the Puccini favorite, staged at the Salzburg Festival, 2012.Tenor Piotr Beczala is Rodolfo, Mimì’s lover. Massimo Cavalletti sings Rodolfo’s friend, Marcello, with great beauty of tone. Nino Machaidze is a moving Musetta.

The orchestration of this popular opera always leads to my tears as Mimì’s life slips away. Throughout his reading, conductor Daniele Gatti strikes the perfect balance between sentiment and sentimentality, vigor and fragility, the specter of untimely death and the quick and young it haunts.

Here, again, is the list of the cast:

Anna Netrebko (Mimi), Piotr Beczala (Rodolfo), Massimo Cavalletti (Marcello) & Nino Machaidze (Musetta), Alessio Arduini (Schaunard), Carlo Colombara (Colline), Davide Fersini (Benoît), Peter Kálmán (Alcindoro), Paul Schweinester (Parpignol), Steven Forster (Parpignol – Artist)

Supported by the Wiener Philharmoniker, conducted by Daniele Gatti

The New York Times wrote, “You don’t often hear Mimì sung with such vivid character, and sheer charisma.”
