Shostakovich: Sonatas

Dmitri Shostakovich was a very prolific composer. He wrote highly original symphonies and chamber works, and he had to do so when artists experienced a high degree of government control in Russia.

On this CD, Oleg Kagan, violin, and Yuri Bashmet, viola, perform Shostakovich’s sonatas for violin and for viola, as accompanied by Sviatoslav Richter.
