Schumann’s Cello Concerto and Trio.

Many of the works by Robert Schumann have been neglected for the past years. Some musicologists complained about the “light” orchestration of his symphonies. Other musicians neglected his chambeer music. One of the exceptions for this poor treatment has been the piano concerto in A- Minor.

On this CD, we get to hear for following:

  • Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129, with the Freiburger Barockorchester, Pablo Heras-Casado conducting.
  • Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 63, with Isabelle Faust (violin), Alexander Melnikov (fortepiano), and Jean-Guihen Queyras (cello)

This is the final instalment of the complete concertos and trios by Robert Schumann featuring the cello playing of Jean-Guihen Queyras.

The Cello Concerto, though championed by Clara Schumann, suffered from delays in publication and was not premiered until after the composer’s death.

Here are the performing artists on this recording, speaking about the three recordings of the concertos, coupled with Schumann’s piano trios:
