Andras Schiff!

Goldberg Variations!

András Schiff emerged during the past 10 years as one of the most respected pianists of his generation. He began piano lessons at the age of five with Elisabeth Vadász, and made his debut at the age of nine. At 14 Schiff began formal studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy with Professor Pál Kadosa, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados. He now also conducts his own small chamber ensemble, which exemplifies his on-going excellence in music performance

In this CD, Andras Schiff shows us his unique way or interpreting the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach. Schiff’s amazing pianistic technique and his marvelous feeling for music are always in the service of the music. The opening Aria is played with a serenity that is totally absorbing, and still Schiff also brings us great variety in this music. Beyond the serious, spiritual aspects, so much of the Goldberg music is actually DANCE material, and Schiff never loses sight of this, even in some of the traditionally slower variations.
