Bizet’s Carmen

Bizet: Carmen

Performed by a fantastic cast with Roberto Alagna, Erwin Schrott, Marina Poplavskaya, and Béatrice Uria-Monzon. With the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu & Cor del Gran Teatre del Liceu, Marc Piollet

The singers portray the following characters in the Opera:

  • Béatrice Uria-Monzon (Carmen), Roberto Alagna (Don José), Erwin Schrott (Escamillo), Marina Poplavskaya (Micaëla)

This prestigious 2011 production from the Gran Teatre del Liceu was staged by the world famous and highly controversial stage director Calixto Bieito, admired for his raw and evocative settings.

Béatrice Uria-Monzon is an excellent singer, and also a terrific actress, which brings a lot of reality to her role. I saw highlights of this opera, and it looked like an exciting and highly emotional performance, as you can see from the video below:

Here are Roberto Alagna & Béatrice Uria-Monzon singing in the final Act III of Carmen
