Sol Gabetta

Sol Gabetta, Cellist

I just love to “discover” new artists, whose work in music I admire. Today my subject is Ms. Sol Gabetta, who plays the Cello.

Since winning her first competition at the age of ten, Sol Gabetta has gone on to win numerous other awards, including the Natalia Gutman Award for best musical interpretation in the International Tchaikovsky Competition,

On this recording, Sol Gabetta visits the Baroque era by performing three cello concertos and one rare cello sonata by Antonio Vivaldi, along with 2 additional cello concertos by lesser known composers, Leonardo Leo and Giovanni Benedetto Platti.

In this performance of 21 tracks Ms. Gabetta uses a 1781 Gagliano Baroque cello and introduces us to her own fourteen-piece ensemble, “Capella Gabetta”, performing on period instruments.

These are very nice performances of Vivaldi’s music; Ms. Gabetta is impressive with her terrific singing tone and awesome technique;

Here is Sol Babetta, performing the Shostakovich Cello concerto #1:

And next, she plays the Edward Elgar ‘Sospiri’ op. 70
