Robert Schumann’s lyrical Cello Concerto (with Carter Brey, the Philharmonic’s principal cellist) is featured at the center of this concert, preceded by the world première of “Après,” by Franck Krawczyk, a young French composer appreciative of Schumann’s musical style.
The program ends with Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D Major, all under the baton of Alan Gilbert.
