This is the CD of the Month for November, 2019. I know these sonatas well because I used to play them, and occasionally heard my father play them, as well.
These are lyrical works with divided roles given to the piano and the violin. For me, they bring to mind the Austrian countryside, where Brahms frequently spent his summers.
Alina Ibragimova continues her long-standing musical collaboration with French pianist Cédric Tiberghien in this new recording which includes Brahms’ three Violin Sonatas and one of Clara Schumann’s Three Romances.
