Grigory Sokolov Plays Chopin’s Prelude Opus 28, #4

Much has been written and discussed regarding Frederick Chopin’s Preludes for piano. Composer Franz Liszt’s opinion was that “Chopin’s Preludes are compositions of an order entirely apart… they are poetic preludes, analogous to those of a great contemporary poet, who cradles the soul in golden dreams…”

The Opus 20, #4 was played at the composer’s funeral on organ. It consists of a slow melody in the right hand that prolongs tonic resolution and repeated block chords in the left hand that descend chromatically.

I always find myself to be very sad when I listen to this one, and Mr. Sokolov is a true master in his interpretation:
