The Arabesque #1 by Claude Debussy was composed in 1891.

The “Deux Arabesques” were the first solo piano works published by the young Debussy; he was still in his 20s. Well over 100,000 copies of the first Arabesque were sold during the composer’s lifetime; it was immediately popular and still remains so.

This composition uses arpeggios, and the whole tone scale. The resulting music setting is freer, flowing, and still considered as the definition of an Impressionist composition.
