Mozart Concerto for Two Pianos

Mozart composed 27 concerti for Piano and Orchestra. Many of these were done for his own performances in which he appeared as the soloist.

One of his compositions was for two separate pianos, and, in my view, there are special challenges with that: the two pianos have to support each other and to strive to present the music in an integrated way. Too often when the two pianists attempt to outshine each other, the music suffers. I am also fussy about the tempos of the three movements. Personally I enjoy the music more if the first and third movement are not done as a horse race…

Here is the one recording that I enjoyed most. The music is performed by Tamara Stefanovich and Pierre-Laurent Aimard, with the Salzburg Camerata orchestra.
